"The object of the Society shall be the collection, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge about the history of Sibley County and to relate it to the history of the state of Minnesota."

The Museum is open to the public for tours Memorial Day and Sundays from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. June thru October and by appointment. Genealogy is by appointment only.

2009 Building Fund Opportunity

For several years Sibley County Historical Society has used portions of the museum for administrative functions, thus reducing display areas and restricting the museum’s ability to properly tell the story of Sibley County. An addition to the building would provide the administrative space, including an area for genealogy workers, thus freeing areas for historic displays. Late last year, Charles and Donna Meyer, former Sibley County residents now living in Texas, donated $25,000 and suggested it be used for a building fund. Their gift and wishes for its use spurred the SCHS board to explore options for erecting an addition to the Poehler home.

The anticipated cost of the addition is approximately $150,000. In addition to the gift, the SCHS has available $25,000 for a building project and members of the board have pledged approximately $10,000 toward the building project. In addition, the Meyers have now offered to match monetary gifts totaling up to $25,000 toward the construction. These gifts would provide over two-thirds of the funds needed.

The Sibley County Historical Society Board wants everyone to be aware of the opportunity to support this vital building project. Donations in any amount will be gratefully accepted and applied to the construction costs. We hope to meet our goal by June 1, 2009 so that the construction could begin this summer.

The Sibley County Historical Society is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation as recognized by the Internal Revenue Service, and therefore your donation is tax deductible. The Sibley County Historical Society will recognize all donors.
